Summer Running

I have some races planned for this summer that I am really excited about. But wouldn't it be cool to have a different running experience other then racing? My good friend Cat, writes an awesome blog for Ski Utah. Yesterday morning Cat sent me an article of a fantastic idea that for summer running. The article is MTS Recap: What Does it Take to Create a Summer Magnet? and it was written by Gregg Blanchard.

The part of the article that was most interesting to me was when Blanchard talked about a fourth option for mountain resorts to develop for summer time:

"The idea is hardly developed, so I’ll just spit it out: what if a resort hired a former Olympic long distance runner and became the trail running / ultramarathon training capital of the world. Two-week long camps to prep for the growing number of mountain races."

I am in love with the idea of running at a ski resort, and think the idea of having trail running camps is a fantastic idea. Check out the rest of the article, and let me know if it would be something that you would be interested in.

Panic

I have previously mentioned that I do things backwards. Well true to that statement, I am starting tor concentrate and train for my race. I have 11 days and 12 hours until I have to be at the starting line. So where most people have been training for months, having two or three workouts a day. I am doing this race the backwards way. I will train before I show up, but I am going into it mainly blind.

Panic is the feeling that best describes how I am feeling. I am not panicked about not finishing the race. (I know I can do that.) But more for the unknown of it, and the unknown of what my next adventure will be. This is not a bad panic, it's a good panic and a step in my right direction.

The bad panic that I am having is for the known. I know that come Sunday May 5, I am going to have a hard time walking, and that is the scariest part.

An Article For A Snowy Day

My friend Arianne ran across Utah Lake last January. She wrote about it on her blog runariran. I think this sounded like such a fun idea. I hope to try this next winter.

Lake to Lake

I ran in a relay race with a group of friends on March 4th. Our team was 15th over all and I think 5th in the co-ed division. I highly recommend the Lake to Lake St. George for a quick day relay.

This is my team. "Don't Move A Mussel."
This is what I looked like after my two legs. I accidentally ran further then I was supposed to and ended up running 12 miles.

Cross Fit

I recently read an article from Outside Magazine written by Christopher Solomon. The article is
about training for a marathon by using only Cross Fit. Brian MacKenzie's Controversial New Approach to Marathon Training. Check it out and let me know what you think.

20 Types of Athletes You'll see at an Ironman Race

I watched a full Ironman last May, I wish that I had the list to see how many of these athletes I could have seen.

20 Types of Athletes You'll see at an Ironman Race

I found this on the Rate Your Burn's blog, which is a really interesting site, and this is a really funny post.

Want It So Bad You Can Taste It…

I am an incredibly motivated person. When there is something I want I will do most anything to get it. Going back to school to finish my degree and land the perfect job, are things that I want so bad I can taste them.

I started school in January of 2012 and I will be graduating this summer. I had the goal to finish in a year and a half and it looks like I am going to do it, and I feel that the perfect job is not that far out of sight. Again, these are things that I have wanted so badly I could taste them.

I have wanted to participate in a triathlon, and it has never been the right time. (But really, is there ever a right time to sign up to physically punish yourself?) I went for a bike ride Saturday, and at the end of the ride I got that feeling. The feeling of wanting something so bad I can taste it. Not only do I want to compete, I want to finish feeling strong and accomplished. I am hungry enough for this that I am tolerating and even love the feel of being uncomfortable and in pain.

The discomfort and pain is not only a physical pain, but a mental discomfort that makes my nerves twitch and causes me to have goosebumps when I think about my task at hand. In the end the taste of the finish will be worth all the discomfort and pain.

Have you ever had something that you have wanted so bad you could taste it?
